Moon Harbour Recording - Leipzig (DE)
born in the mid-seventies, phil grew up internationally minded in west germany's ex-capitol bonn. at the
beginning of the nineties, he was introduced to electronic music at the psycho thrill club nights (bonn), and
the warehouse (cologne).
having finished a degree in philosophy in munich in 2000, he moved to sydney where he worked for rhythm
fm and emi music. later he followed a freelance job offer from compost records, and returned to munich. to
build a bridge between the scenes on different continents, he set off curl curl music with his friend and label
manager andré quaas (moon harbour). the unique curl curl concept is to release underground rhythms from
new zealand/australia in europe together with european remixes.
after a few years in munich, he left again for the south pacific, this time to new zealand where he took on a
job at local record label loop. in 2008 phil moved on from loop to work for les mills, a health and fitness
company, in music licensing.
in collaboration with gerard masters, a new zealand jazz keyboarder based in sydney, he produced his own
tracks on curl curl under the moniker ‘shortboard’. he spins records in auckland (ink) and wellington
(sandwiches) and on trips back to germany as well at robert johnson (offenbach), die registratur (munich)
and bar 25, berghain kantine and watergate (berlin).
